#4231 – The Law Reveals

Good morning people who live in true freedom

Romans 3:20 NIV Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.

What a powerful truth that needs to be understood today.

Many believe they are right with God based upon what they do or do not do. Many believe that if they obey the Ten Commandments or follow the correct set of religious rules, they will be righteous in God’s eyes. Many other religions also hold to a similar belief system.

The fundamental problem with this is that righteousness is therefore based on man’s efforts. The Bible clearly shows us this is not correct.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.

We are saved through faith in Jesus Christ. Becoming righteous is about what God has done for us and not what we can do for Him. Salvation is a gift offered to all and it is based in God’s grace, not our works.

The purpose of the law then is not to make us holy but to clearly outline what is right and wrong. When we know this, and as a result see our sin, God’s grace is available to make us righteous if we will receive it by faith. Therefore the law is a friend, not a foe to be feared. The law is a connection point to God because it reveals our need for Him.

I pray you know God as the Giver of Grace that He is.
