#4187 – Discern Wisely

Good morning people who discern wisely

Matthew 4:5-6 Then the devil took Him to the holy city and had Him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If You are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: ‘He will command His angels concerning You, and they will lift You up in their hands, so that you will not strike Your foot against a stone.’”

In this passage above, the devil quoted scripture to Jesus to try and get Him to do what he wanted. Just think about that: the devil quoted scripture to get what he wanted. We need to discern wisely and know that not everyone who quotes scripture is doing it by the Spirit of God.

Here’s a sobering scripture that reinforces the need to discern wisely.

1 Timothy 4:1 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.

People won’t abandon the faith if teaching is blatantly wrong. This scripture refers to deceiving spirits. Most things that are deceptive are a mixture of lots of truth mixed with a little error or extremes. We need to walk closely to God and in transparency with others to ensure we stay in the truth.

I also believe that the will of God is found in the Word of God. But there is a need to be able to correctly use the Word of God and to ensure we don’t misuse it to meet our own desires.

2 Timothy 2:15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the Word of Truth.

One of the greatest principles that every Believer would do well to live by is living by the counsel of the whole Word of God. Isolation brings error. Using scripture in isolation brings error also.

Let’s be people of truth and let’s be people who speak the truth in love to others.
