#4146 – Covenant Keeping

Good morning people with a trustworthy God

Exodus 24:7-8 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the Lord has said; we will obey.” Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people and said, “This is the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words.”

I’m sure glad we don’t have to be sprinkled with blood anymore. I know it sounds terrible, but we need to understand that many things were culturally quite different thousands of years ago. It was very symbolic of the binding nature of the covenant being made. This was not something said lightly. Applying the blood was a binding contract; an everlasting covenant.

Do you know why we don’t need to do this anymore? Because Jesus Christ shed His own blood to pay the price for all of our wrongdoing and to write a new covenant that would never be changed! We now have access to God through Jesus Christ because of this new covenant.

Today I want to point our attention to the truth that God is a covenant making and a covenant keeping God. This means God’s Word can be trusted fully.

Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that He should change His mind. Does He speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfil?

The answer to both of these questions is “No!”

2 Corinthians 1:20 For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through Him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.

Amen means “So be it”. In other words, when God makes a promise, we can confidently say “So be it”. That’s good news!
