#394 – More Than About

Good morning those who know God personally

Many know about the things of God. Many know about great people of God. Many know the Bible stories and would even profess to know the characters well. But the question that is most important is “Do we know God?”

Luke 16:22-24 The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him, “Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.”

I believe this rich man who lived for himself and ignored the needs of others had some type of religious background. At least, he knew something of the Scriptures. In this passage he recognised Abraham. Sure he hadn’t met him but I’m not sure that’s the point of this passage. When he addressed him he called him “Father Abraham”. All the wording here is important and highlights the fact that he knew things about the Scripture and the things of God.

Was that enough to secure his eternal destiny with God? Unfortunately the answer is no yet this is a story repeated every day across the world. Many die knowing the things of God, being able to eve recognise the things of God yet have never personalised a relationship with God. It’s possible the rich man may have even been surprised when he ended up in hell. If he could change things I’m sure he would have but his time was up.

Today I simply want to encourage every person to consider this question, “Do you know God personally?” If you are one that knows about God, knows about spiritual things, yet have never accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour, then I encourage you to do so today. If this is your sincere desire, if you want to be right with God, please pray this prayer and then follow it up by talking to someone who can help you grow in God.

“Dear heavenly Father. Thank You for loving me. I know that I am a sinner and I need Your grace to save me. I ask You to forgive me for my sins and I choose this day to accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. In Jesus Name, amen.”

If you prayed that prayer for the first time or you have made a recommitment to Christ, I would love to hear from you (reply to sender and your e-mail will get to me).

God bless you.
