Good morning people who don’t seek the approval of man but of God
Matthew 6:5 NIV And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.
Jesus attached rewards to our prayers. Interesting.
In this first mention of rewards, it’s not positive.
Jesus is talking about the sin of praying in order to be seen by others. He is talking about people saying, “WOW!” because of our prayers, and tells us to not make our prayer about how spiritual we are.
This is what the Scribes and Pharisees did, and Jesus called them hypocrites.
Jesus says later that our Father will reward our prayers! Wonderful!
But in the context of the above, Jesus reveals a truth that must no be ignored.
Here it is:
If we pray for the purpose of being seen by others, then people’s applause will be the full extent of our reward.
I encourage you to read the previous line again.
May Father reveal truth to us all.
