#3746 – Keep My Eyes

Good morning people who fix your eyes on our God and our King

Psalm 16:8 NIV I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With Him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

I am drawn towards the words ‘keep my eyes’ in relation to ‘always on the Lord’.

Now I know that as we journey through life, there are many practical things that need our attention and focus. We have families and work, as well as the many other things that we do that require us to ‘pay attention’.

But this verse draws me to something deeper. Here’s the question that I am prompted with as I read it:

“Do we look at God and glance at our circumstances…or do we look at our circumstances and glance at God?”

I believe it is for very good reason that we are instructed in Hebrews 12:2 to ‘fix our eyes on Jesus’. It’s interesting to note what comes directly before these words of wisdom. Here it is:

Hebrews 12:1b NIV …let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

There’s that word ‘perseverance’ again that we looked at recently. We need it to ‘throw off’ and ‘run’, but we do it best by ‘fixing our eyes on Jesus’.

“Are your eyes looking in the right place today?”
