Good morning right-focused people
I want to share a passage of Scripture this morning from The Message paraphrase written by the prophet Amos to the children of Israel. It hits hard but I think it’s worth us considering the challenging truth in it for all of us today.
Amos 5:21-24 I can’t stand your religious meetings. I’m fed up with your conferences and conventions. I want nothing to do with your religion projects, your pretentious slogans and goals. I’m sick of your fund-raising schemes, your public relations and image making. I’ve had all I can take of your noisy ego-music. When was the last time you sang to me? Do you know what I want? I want justice–oceans of it. I want fairness–rivers of it. That’s what I want. That’s all I want.
Is this passage saying all that we do and love in Church is wrong? By no means! This was written to people that were caught up in religious activities but they were forsaking the very things that are dear to the heart of God; justice and righteousness. It’s a challenge to us today because I think it is quite easy for us to unknowingly get caught up in this also.
God is looking for people who worship Him by doing good to others and walking right with Him.
Acts 10:38 God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and He went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with Him.
Jesus loved to do good to everyone. We are reminded in the story of the Good Samaritan to not pass by people in need. For us today, do we ever rush past people in need because we are on our way to a prayer meeting or to Church?
