Good morning people with a faithful God
1 Kings 17:2-6 Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah: “Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan. You will drink from the brook, and I have ordered the ravens to feed you there.” So he did what the LORD had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan, and stayed there. The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook.
This is a fantastic picture of how God can provide for our needs. Sure we know He can but the awesome thing is that He is not limited in how He can.
Firstly Elijah had to obey and go to the place God had said and believe that God would provide in this ‘strange’ way. Are we obeying God when He tells us to go ‘here’ or go ‘there’? Do we take God at His Word even when it sounds strange? Obedience is vital for provision.
Secondly where did the ravens get the bread from? The last time I checked ravens, or any bird for that matter, don’t know how to cook! Even if they did know how to cook, which they don’t, where did they get the ingredients from to make the bread?! God is not limited in how He will supply our needs. God is often creative and this story is further proof that we need God.
Thirdly there’s the issue that God was talking to a bird and the bird listened and obeyed God’s instructions. In other scriptures God spoke through a donkey, a burning bush and even through wicked kings. God can speak any way He wants; He can use anyone or anything. The question we need to ask ourselves is “Are we listening and open to God’s methods and ways?”
Our wonderful Father is able to meet all of our needs. Let’s thank Him for His faithfulness today.
