#2516 – God of Hearts

Good morning people who do not judge by externals

Matthew 3:4 (NIV) John’s clothes were made of camel’s hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.

As people with strong opinions (am I speaking to anyone?), it is very easy for us to focus on the external. Dare I say it, we can often judge simply by externals. I have to be careful of this myself.

Now for those who want to do ‘this’ or ‘that’ to themselves, your motivation is key. Being different or rebellious is never an acceptable reason for doing things that could offend many good people. On the decision-making end, we must be careful to honour other people above our own preference. This is love.

But here is the truth: Sometimes the things of God come wrapped up in different packaging than we are comfortable with. Some of us wouldn’t have recognised John as a man of God simply because he looked different to other men of God.

I feel God is saying to us today: Image is not as important as heart, for our God is a God of hearts.
