#2396 – Extravagant Worship

Good morning people who love God lavishly

John 12:3-4 (NIV) Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus feet and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. But one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray Him, objected,

This act by Mary was an extravagant act of worship. She didn’t care what people thought – although others saw what she did, this was just between her and Jesus.

Yet Judas objected to this extravagance.

“Do you object to people’s extravagant worship of Jesus?”

“How about when it looks different to what you are comfortable with?”

In our own lives, our worship of Jesus looks different to other peoples. It need not fit into a formula or a model, but in our own way, there should be an extravagance to it. God is worthy of extravagance. In fact, extravagant worship of God is ‘our reasonable service’.

“How is your worship of God?”
