#2175 – Your Employment

Good morning people who ask for favour with their employers

Nehemiah 1:11 (NIV) Lord, let Your ear be attentive to the prayer of this Your servant and to the prayer of Your servants who delight in revering Your name. Give Your servant success today by granting him favour in the presence of this man.” I was cupbearer to the king.

I love this verse and the truth that it has for all of our lives today!

Here we find Nehemiah, and as stated, he was the cupbearer to the king. Think about that. His role wasn’t leading worship, being a pastor, being a missionary, or feeding the poor. His job was to fill up the king’s cup.

But here we see a man, who regardless of his role, asked God to give him favour with his boss. This is an invitation for you today too!

I remember the time I worked at Hume Doors & Timber for 12 years. I started in the factory, screwing hinges on door jambs. There was nothing glamorous, spiritual or eternal about this work…but I knew something: I knew that I was a carrier of the presence of God and that God had me there for a reason and a season.

And so I prayed that I would be a blessing. I prayed that I would make a difference. I prayed for favour with those I served.

And God responded. God promoted me time after time into areas where I had no experience. God gave me favour with my boss and with my fellow employees. God added His supernatural power to the areas I knew I lacked. To this day, I still have favour with these wonderful people, even though I have been gone for 10 years (I even had the opportunity late last year to go into hospital and pray for my old boss who is unsaved. He was on life support, but since then, he has greatly improved, is out of hospitable and is recovering – praise The Lord!)

“Do you pray for favour with those you serve?”
