#2123 – Our Hearts

Good morning people whose hearts are set on our great God

When people need to be appointed to positions, our tendency is to look at gifts and skills. After all, people need to be able to do the job.

God does things differently. Our God is a God of hearts. God knows that gifts and skills can be developed and that it is more important that people’s hearts are right.

In a time when Israel’s first king was rejected by God, Samuel the prophet was sent to anoint another king. A man named Jesse had several sons; strong, healthy, fit, skilled young men who were obvious kingly material…

…but God does things differently. Our God is a God of hearts. Here’s what happened:

1 Samuel 16:6-7 (NIV) When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, “Surely the Lord’s anointed stands here before the Lord.” But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Today God still looks at people’s hearts.

“How is your heart towards God, His people and the many precious people who don’t yet know God as Lord and Saviour?”

There is something beautiful, wonderful and right about people whose hearts are set on God and His purpose for their lives. In a time when many are chasing their dreams, God is looking for people whose hearts are fully set on Him.

“Are you such a person?”

2 Chronicles 16:9a (NIV) For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him.
