#2011 – Do Not Worry

Good morning people who choose to meditate on God’s goodness and faithfulness

“What did you wake up and choose to think about this morning?”

You might answer that you woke up anxious and worrying but you didn’t choose to. That may be the case. We all have times when we wake up that way.

But my question wasn’t “What did you wake up thinking about this morning?” My question was “What did you wake up and choose to think about this morning?” There is a big difference.

When our mind automatically takes us to a place of anxiety and worry, we then choose if we stay there and allow fear to rule, or if we start to meditate on God’s Word and allow faith to rule. Either way, it is our choice.

I know I am labouring this and that is because this affects many of us to a huge degree. But the power is not in the worry or anxiety, but in the belief that we don’t have a choice. This is simply not true – the Bible is too clear on this.

Matthew 6:25 (NIV) Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

Philippians 4:6 (NIV) Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

“Do not worry about your life…do not be anxious about anything.” These are instructions that God Himself gave us. These can only be given if we are able to do it, and we can! I know it is sometimes extremely difficult, but it is always possible.

Tomorrow I might look at a key that empowers this choice more than anything else.
