#1226 – At Once

Good morning mature people of God

Jesus called Simon and Andrew to come and follow Him, and His promise to them was He would make them fishers of men. This would have been a strange request to seasoned fishermen.

So what was their response?

Matthew 4:20-22 At once they left their nets and followed Him. Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed Him.

I hope you get this today. This was a strange request met by four people with instant obedience.

“…at once…immediately…”

How’s our response time to Jesus’ instructions?

How’s our response time to Jesus’ invitations?

These four men left their livelihood and families at a word from Jesus, a word that in the natural did not make much sense.

I believe a sign of maturity is a decreased distance between hearing and obeying.

These four men didn’t ask for clarification, nor did they ask to pray about it. They obeyed at once; immediately.

I wonder if we take Jesus’ words as suggestions more than invitations and instructions.

May we purpose to be ’at once’ and ’immediately’ people – for the glory of God
