Good morning people who are steadfast in truth
I’ve been encouraging us all to continually ask what God says about things in our lives. I’ve encouraged us to ask, and then relentlessly hold on to what God says…and this is often the difficult part; holding on.
It is easy to get knocked off course by the challenging demands of life. But our strength and confidence comes from being anchored to the life-changing truth of God’s infallible Word. Difficult? Yes. Impossible? No.
John 8:31-32 To the Jews who had believed Him, Jesus said, “If you hold to My teaching, you are really My disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
Jesus makes it clear in this passage that hearing the Word is not enough to change us. We need to hold on to what God says. This is what the word hold means in this passage:
Hold: to stay in a given place, state, relation or expectancy: – abide, continue, dwell, endure, be present, remain, stand, tarry
Do you notice the word endure in the definition above? We don’t always like words like this but we need to fully accept the effort that holding on to God’s teaching takes.
What is the result of holding to God’s teaching?
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
The word know here means absolutely. When you hold to God’s teaching, you will absolutely know the truth
